Lync deployment specialist Unify Square shares its reflections and predictions on unified communications in general and Microsoft's offering in particular.

As we transition from 2014 to 2015, Microsoft Lync goes out with the old and Skype for Business comes in with the new -- on paper, at least. In practice, the Lync name will be hard to displace as part of the enterprise UC lexicon.

Lync, after all, made considerable strides within the enterprise in 2014. Among 100 enterprises surveyed around the globe, for example, 70% committed to Lync in 2014 compared to only 20% the year prior, reported Unify Square, a consultant/software development firm that specializes in Lync deployments. But still, many of those companies keep grappling with how best to handle implementation and ongoing support for Lync. As enterprises embrace best practices and get their Lync-cum-Skype for Business strategies in order, Unify Square predicts that 50% of enterprises will have formalized operational plans in place by the end of 2015.

Unify Square shared the findings from its 2014 survey and additional predictions in the infographic below. Take a look, and add your own thoughts about Lync/Skype for Business in the new year in the comments below.
