The company's IPO filing contains some intriguing nuggets about who Skype's users are in the U.S.
How's this for some fascinating information you don't often get from a communications company? As part of its IPO filing, Skype provided the results of a third-party survey conducted in July 2009, showing some key high-level demographics. The bottom line:
* The majority of Skype users are female:
* Overall, more than half of U.S. Skype users are between 16 and 34 years old:
* 57% of Skype users earn more than $50,000, compared with 22% of the U.S. population that averages this salary level:
The survey also found that 37% of Skype users use the service for business, and Skype reported that as of June 30, 2010, it had 2,400 users for Skype Connect and 161,000 using Skype Manager, its two business offerings.
